About Shawn

Photography is a way to express myself with light. I enjoy the natural light that nature provides and wish to capture this essence. Most of my photography is nature.

I got my first camera in 2000 just before digital SLR became mainstream and had acceptable quality. Film was the way to go then. As someone who didn’t have much money, Pentax offered the most bang for the buck, so that is what I used for several years. I learned the art of nature photography using Fuji Velvia slide film. This is how I learned about exposure, depth of field, and the zone system.

I currently use Fuji cameras, because they are a connection to traditional photography, while having all of the modern bells and whistles. Thier styling, ergonomics, and interface are reminiscent to 60's and 70's classic and elegant designs. I can focus more on photography instead of messing with menus.
